School Science Workshops

You may choose from these ready-made workshop subjects or ask our Design Professor (affectionately know as Zed) to custom build one on a subject that you want for your Science Day

THE UNITED STATES OF MATTER

This is an ESPECIALLY WOW module

We use a box of FROZEN CARBON DIOXIDE pellets to learn about stuff

And about what happens inside stuff when we do things to it

Like learning the rules about making it hotter and colder

And finding out that there's always some stuff that breaks the rules

Subjects embraced in this module are the physics of sound, temperature,

chemistry, molecules, bubble technology, expansion and contraction

All inspired by our friendly villain Snowhereman

All presented in language appropriate to the age and ability of the children

And, if there's a spare minute, a big WOW finale

( This Module has an added cost to cover the Box of Dry Ice used )

FLYING LESSONS FOR KIDS

Lots of things fly and all of them use a different science to do it

We look at some of them and learn the science which helps them to fly

We'll experiment with flyers such as birds, bees, hot air balloons,

planes, hovercraft, rockets and lunar modules

Subjects embraced in this module are the science of heat, molecular behaviour,

fluid dynamics, friction, laws of motion, and biology

All presented in language appropriate to the age and ability of the children

And, if there's a spare minute, a big WOW finale

ROCKET SCIENCE IS EASY

There are many ways to experiment with science models of rockets

They all demonstrate the fundamental principle of rocketry

With Skwiddee's assistance we will try some of them

We'll use balloons, stomps, a rocket-propelled car,

and pop bottles, and before everyone goes home let's launch

a REAL ROCKET up to 200 metres

Subjects embraced in this module are biology, laws of motion, thrust,

trigonometry, air pressure, chemistry, and molecular behaviour

All presented in language appropriate to the age and ability of the children

And, if there's a spare minute, a big WOW finale

(Suggest that the real rocket is launched as parents collect the children)

IMPORTANT Real rocket launching is dependant on safe weather and space conditions

Launch may have to be aborted if considered to be a danger at the time

'DOWN TO EARTH' BY LECCY AND THE LECTRONS

And Introducing Elektra Kutie

Starts with a couple of simple static electricity experiments then uses

a Tesla Machine to demonstrate electrical current safely in a huge fun way

We all get very hands-on to easily learn the basics of circuits,

switching, arcing, conduction and resistance

Introduce nitrocellulose, light tubes, energy sticks, goo, matches and

paper clips and the results can be shocking for both pupils and teachers

Subjects embraced in this module are static electricity,

electrical current, chemistry, fire, and safety

All presented in language appropriate to the age and ability of the children

And, if there's a spare minute, a big WOW finale

GOO GOO A' JOOB WITH POLLY MURS

Goo is now a respectable science word

Meaning a viscid or sticky substance

So let's let goo teach us some science

First let's learn that most goos are polymers and try some gooey stuff

Then let's dance to understand what's happening here

Now shall we do it with chemicals?

Like (C2H4O)x and Na2B4O7·10H2O and C2OH12O5

In pots so we can take it home and bounce it off the walls

Subjects embraced in this module are chemistry, biology,

environmental science, molecular structure, and choreography

All presented in language appropriate to the age and ability of the children

And, if there's a spare minute, a big WOW finale

* NEW! THE SCIENCE OF WORDS NEW! *

Words are probably the most significant human science breakthrough ever

But what is a word?

Where do they come from?

What do they do for us?

How do words work?

PARTY PRICING

They said it was the best day ever.

LICENSED TO SKILL

The whole school, children and adults alike, thoroughly enjoyed the activities of the day. Every single child had a positive comment to make.

Thank you so much for a truly brilliant party - all the children were talking about it at school yesterday (and the parents).

The children absolutely did have a great day and it certainly sparked an interest in Science for many. It is clear to me, as it was to the rest of the staff, that you are passionate about Science and teaching these exciting things to children.

Thanks James, for all your work on the day. You really animated the Bradford Science Festival and the evaluations are all very positive.

Thank you for all the wonderful work you have done with the children over the last two days. It has been fantastic to see the children's excitement and engagement in the world of science. The adults have been totally engaged too!!

Attended a great party on Saturday - James Boffin you really entertained the children - loved the James Boffin persona/stories and the experiments. Highly recommend if you are thinking of a children's party idea or a school event. Thanks James

Dear James, thanks for a wonderful, fun-filled and exciting two days of science extravaganza! The children have had a fantastic time learning about various scientific concepts in a fun way. The dry ice workshop was a real wow moment and the final rocket launch was a definite crowd pleaser! The assembly was amazing. It was a pleasure having you at our school.

I would like to say how much our children enjoyed James Boffin at our youth club last night. James entertained around fifty 4-8 year old children and they were all mesmerized by him, as were the thirty 9-15 year olds. The kids were all laughing and shouting their little heads off. The feedback from the parents the day after was fantastic. Apparently their little ones raved on and on about all the experiments that he had showed them.
